"Women's History Month: Honoring the Women Who Feminized the UU Church," by Vivian Jenkins

  • Black Hills Unitarian Universalist Fellowship P.O. Box 9311 Rapid City, SD 57709 (map)

Under the male dominated Unitarian and Universalist churches, the environment was very sexist, intolerant, and Protestant. In the mid 1800s, women fought hard for ordination and churches to lead. They brought with them feminine ideas, values, priorities, and concerns that changed the faces of Unitarianism and Universalism to the more feminine approach to spiritual life we see in Unitarian/ Universalism today.
